Honeywell Buying Smart Grid Company Akuacom

Reuters

Honeywell International Inc (HON.N) said Friday it will pay an undisclosed sum for Akuacom, a maker of technology and services for the smart electric grid.

Akuacom's technology enables utilities to reduce electricity use when demand is highest, such as during hot days, thereby reducing the chance of brownouts and blackouts. The company will be integrated within Honeywell's building solutions segment, the company said.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Akuacom is based in San Rafael, California.
